The naming of candy is a point of national pride for the citizens of most countries. In fact, nearly all international conflicts have arisen from two or more countries’ failure to agree on what to call a particular form of junk food. 79% of the time, the delicacy in question involves some food or substance covered in chocolate.
Interestingly, the victor of these conflicts never earns naming rights as part of the spoils. And that is actually where the term “spoils” originated. As part of formal surrender contracts, winners have only ever gotten the right to name food that goes bad over time. Candy never goes bad.
