Pirates hated parrots. However, maritime law dictated that a bird of some form must reside on a seafaring vessel (this law remains in effect to this day). After the publishing of The Albatross and the sickening turn of events on Chickenbeard’s ship, the pirate community agreed that the parrot was the least distasteful option.
